For Helen & others looking for genealogy-type information, www.clarelibrary.ie has very good info, including Garda Staff. Thanks to all for the notes : my great-grandfather, John Ginnane, left the Ginnane farm in Rahona East in 1878, aged about 28. All 20 or so Ginnanes in NZ today are related to him, and his wife Winifrid Roche from Limerick. We can trace back to Daniel Ginnane in the 1780s. At least one of Dan's sons married into the local Conor Murray family. I met Tony Ginnane, and his sister, the recent Carrigaholt postmistress Mary Ginnane, at Christmas 2000. I have some good family information from Ned Ryan, late of Austin, Texas. Ned's mother was Margaret Ginnane. If anyone would like to share information, I would appreciate that. PS: one of our local Catholic priests is Fr Pat Keane of Doonaha -- he was 'back home' for a few months in 2006. In case anyone remembers him, I can pass on a message from you. Slainte & a Guinness to y'all. Murray@Ginnane.co.nz

I am wondering if someone can direct me to where I could find out what years John Dobbyn served as a garda in Carrigaholt. He was defintely there in 1927 as my dad was born that year. We're 2 weeks away from celebrating his birthday and I'm try to write a little story about his life as a child. Thanks much for any help you can provide. HD

Hello to beautiful Carrigaholt. What a fantastic spot on the Shannon. Glad to see the castle is getting some much deserved restoration. O'Curry's does indeed ROCK, my father was on the team in 1945 (hope I got the year right) when they won the Clare championship! Up the Banner!
